A sea-bound Sierra

Two years ago I had a dream, a dream in which I had a killer swim suit.

I wanted something that would keep the ~girls~ contained and cover up my belly, just a bit.

And I wanted pretty lace~

Decided I would use Butterick B4526, since it seemed versatile.
(spoiler alert, I'm going to use this pattern a lot this month)

To make the bottoms I used the patten for the one peice, and I traced it on my fabric to the waist line.

So about where that chopstick is.

I used a green knit spandex and some white lining fabric for the bottoms. Along with a black WOVEN lace

What was I thinking...

It still works, it's just hard to get on and off, but my origanal plan for the top would not work at all.

Sadly I didn't know this until I had already made the top...

I was able to put it on for a photo.

But it was so tight I couldn't get it on and off without dislocating my shoulders!

So I abandoned the top and focused my efforts on finishing those bottoms!

I used chlorine safe black braided elastic from Wallmart for the leg hole elastic

I basted it down with a zig-zag on my pencils lines, folded it in, and stiched it down proper.

And for the top Of the bottoms I sewed a chanel and put this fancy silicone elastic through the casing.

And I tied it in a very secure knot, because puncturing the silicone with a needle would weaken it; and then it might rip.

Once I had the bottoms constructed I took a minute to admire them, and then I addressed the issue of the missing top.

Since this isn't France, I was going to need one. And I had waisted so much fabric on the first draft that wouldn't fit. So I decided to scrap together a Seria.

I actualy had to peice it together with scraps of fabric green spandex, like a stretchy, conservative puzzle.

Thankfully I had a ton of the black lace. The fabric had previously been a demonic shawl that the Devilette dancers wore in Jesus Christ Superstar.

So I have yards of it laying around, which made peicing the lace easy.

I used black braided electric to finish all of the edges on this top peice as well.

And as far as editing the pattern goes, all I needed to do to turn it into a swimsuit was add about a foot to the wings of the pattern so I could tie it in the back. Rather that having a hook and eye closure.

I have to say, this swimming suit is a bit more reveling than what I thought I was ready for. But once I put it on for the first time I felt unstoppable!

We're getting down to our skivvies!!

Or at least, I'm making skivvies, I keep it G rated here on The Classy Savage!

I decided that I would do a theme month for May.
I'll be upFront with you, I kinda forgot about "me made may"...
So instead I have planned a month dedicated to lingerie!!!

How exciting is that!!!

I'll be sharing my latest makes, some small tutorials, resource lists and what not.

So be sure to stay tuned~

It's going to be pretty swell~

I'm Just So Biased~

So lately I have been very busy, so I haven't had too much sewing time.

So I have been focusing on little bedsores and the building blocks of my sewing supply. Namely bias tape.

Maybe if I pose with it it will look like more of an accomplishment...

I'm new to making bias tape, and I'll tell you there is a learning curve!
But once you get the hang of it it's super easy.

I like to cut continuous bias tape.
And to store my homemade bias tape I have a little trick!

I take the cardboard insert on the inside of the fat quarters and fold it in half.
I cut out a rectangle on the middle and two on the sides like so.

And I do not use fabric scissors!!

Then you slip your bias tape into the hole in the center, fold the cardboard in half again and wrap your tape onto your holder.

Once it's all wrapped up it should look like this~

I like to make three sets of continuous bias tape at once.
And then I wind up with little families.

Nifty and organized!

Do you have any fun tricks that you use bias tape for?
Do you have any favorite Bias related projects?

I would love to hear from you crafty cats.

10 Reasons to Love This Romper

This is my go to summer outfit,
when parried with a thrift store stretchy belt I feel like I can take on the frigging world.

See that seat, take it.
And let me show you 10 reasons why I love this Romper,

First off,
It's good for long-boarding, adventuring and just chilling with my friends!

Here is some photo evidence that I do indeed have friends to chill with,

bonus points for the long-boarding shot.

Secondly, it's sentimental.
This lining is an up-cycled tunic from Jesus Christ Superstar.
It was worn on stage by a good friend and personal Hero of mine named Bob.

Bob is awesome.

And third, It looks so lonely when it's not on my body :(

Just looking at it all sad and empty makes me want to fill it and dance around...

I made this romper before I knew about interfacing. So I dropped the ball on the flap part here.

But let's all focus on the nice hand stitching!
It took like an hour and I can't remember why I was so determined...
But it looks cute!
(which is the fourth reason I love it)

Oh and did I mention?
This pattern was self drafted~

Which is numbers five through nine of why it is so great.

Is it perfect? No.

There is some gaping in the neckline and I didn't put in any pockets :/
But I practically live in it!

And number ten, I spent no money making it!
the snaps were found laying around in my sewing chest,
I drafted the pattern,
and this fabric was lovingly donated by my stash busting neighbor.
thanks Dawn!

And....Even more good news,
 I still have some left!

Any ideas on what this should be?

Leave your suggestions below and I'll see if any of them strikes chord :)

In lieu of Flowers

Have I mentioned my significant other?

Well he gets me roses quite a bit.

And I love them so much that they wind up drying up before I'm willing to even consider throw them out.

So pretty, but so dead.

And I'm sentimental so throwing my surplus dried roses away just feels wrong to me

Also I feel the need to somehow thank my boyfriend for the lovely bouquet. So I decided to make rose petal sugar scrub.

It's actually pretty nice.

I used
~half a cup of sugar
~three table spoons coconut oil
~a tablespoon (ish) of olive oil

I mixed two batches, one with less olive oil and one with more.

I took the picture below to compare the recipes.

On the left is the batch where I used only the a half tablespoon. It has the consistency of snow.

On the right is a more moisturizing, soupy scrub.
This one I kept for myself
(dry skin and all that...)

And then the fun part!

I ripped about six petals each off of a rose and I just missed the whole petals in with a spoon. They were really dry so the petals broke up and mixed in well.

So since I found something I could do with the flowers I wanted to do something with the stems.

So I gave them to my bunny.

Mr. Darcy approved!

So I saved all of the stems and leaves in a bag for for him to snack on later.

What shall I make with these flowers next~

Pants and failure

I grew out of most of my pants when I joined cheer

Three years ago...

And I only just started addressing the issue.

So I found some scrap fabric and sims old skinny jeans and went to work!

The outside seams were unpicked and I left the hem.
Because I'm lazy~

This is what I had after unpicking the outer seams on both legs and laying it out flat.

Then I took my DREAMY scrap fabric, courtesy of my sister, and made panels the length of my legs.

And since my pants were already hemmed I hemmed my panels as well.

Look at how nice that hem is!

I stiched them in and felt a hunger to do more! So I decided to try to add pocket depth!

It was confusing and a pain in the butt. I made a little pouch and I stitched that into the existing pouch.

Unfortunately this wasn't as simple of a project as I thought it would be.
And they certainly didn't turn out like I hoped they would!

They are baggy in places now...and the butt aria is still too small. It should be a smidge longer to fit over my buns.

But the pocket was a success!

I guess I can fix this but right now I'm suuuper tired.

Till next time crafty cats.

I've got magic to do

Just for you~

My lovely friend Paula invited me out to see pippin and I knew just what I was going to wear!

I just had to fix it first!

This sweater is from goodwill, another lovely friend saw it and thought of me.

Well... She thought of my rabbit

As much as I ADORE this sweater I never really wear it. It's just so...pizzazzey.

Don't  get me wrong I love a grand finale as much as the next guy.
But I wasn't ready to take the leap with all this glitz.

I've already found my corner of the sky~

(punny Gif)

So I unpicked the stitches on half the gems

Such {glory!!} ;)

So far that's 4 pippin references ;)
It was a Great show! And I wore a great sweater.

And just in case you haven't seen the show, or caught my puns~
 ~here's just the opening number.
